Hi, I’m Bryan McAllister.
I’ve been playing the piano professionally for the last seventeen years, and it has taken me around the world and allowed me to do things I never could have dreamed of doing. Now I want to share the joy of music with you!
Whether you aspire to play like a pro or just want to learn some basic skills, I know what fun can be had at the piano, and how to unlock your musical identity. I welcome students of all ages, backgrounds, and music interests, and tailor the lessons plans to you.
B.M. in Jazz Piano Performance from CSU Northridge
M.M. in Jazz and Improvisational Music from University of Nevada, Reno
My Approach
A good teacher knows how to meet each student where they are. Students of all ages walk in the door with various life experiences, identities, styles of learning, and personal interests. My approach to teaching involves a thorough framework for general study, molded and shaped by me to meet each student where they are when they begin their study. So many students come to me after trying lessons with another teacher, complaining of rigidity in the curriculum and feeling as though the lessons were trying to fit a proverbial round peg through a square hole. The purpose of “private” lessons should be to get one-on-one lesson time and a private and personalized approach to your music education.
Dream it
I invite students to share with me the music that inspires them. If there is a song you would like to learn, we can learn it. If there is a style of music you want to study, we can study it. You have to do the work, but with my guidance we can achieve the goals you set out for yourself.
Build it
Along the way to learning the songs or styles that each student wants to learn, there are fundamental building blocks of music that we pick up along the way. The acquisition of this knowledge and these skills is the basis of each lesson, and the reward is the arrival at each musical goal.
